Commercial Accountant
Step into a high-impact role as a Commercial Accountant, where you’ll partner closely with the Commercial Manager to drive the financial success of a diverse portfolio spanning machine builds & service operations. This is more than cost control - it’s about shaping performance, influencing decisions, and ensuring every project delivers maximum value.
In this role, you’ll champion strong financial governance - ensuring all project spend aligns with approved budgets, internal policies, and compliance frameworks- while maintaining accurate, transparent reporting across the business.
You will assume end-to-end responsibility for the financial management of projects, including cost control, labour recovery, profitability analysis, and financial performance monitoring. You will also support the Commercial Manager with monthly accruals, account reconciliations, and profit and loss analysis.
You will lead a team of administrators ensuring accurate & timely invoicing and service job costing whilst contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance overall business performance.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial and financial management of machine builds, and related projects, ensuring strong cost control, cost recovery, and margin optimisation.
- EOM cost & revenue accruals
- Ensure all projects are reconciled in a timely manner to determine project financial performance.
- Drive accurate cost tracking and implement corrective actions to protect and enhance project profitability.
- Manage and maintain service profitability, ensuring alignment with commercial targets and lifecycle performance expectations.
- Ensure robust financial governance, aligning expenditure with approved budgets, delegation of authority, and compliance requirements.
- Oversee invoicing processes to ensure alignment with project milestones and contractual obligations
- Partner with operations, finance, and sales teams to improve cost visibility, commercial discipline, and operational efficiency.
- Assist Commercial Manager with monthly P&L analysis and expenditure controls.
- Support the Commercial Manager with planning activities, including budgeting and forecasting.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team, fostering accountability, capability uplift, and high performance.
About you
- Degree in commerce, accounting or related discipline
- At least 3–5 years’ experience with demonstrated involvement in project financial management, cost control, and commercial delivery.
- Experience in a project-based service environment preferable
- Proven leadership experience
- Looking for a career path to Commercial Manager
Desireable
- A recognised Project Management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) highly regarded.
- Experience in construction, mining or heavy equipment industry is advantageous.
