Welding Engineer
The Weld Engineer interfaces with all functions in the facility to support the manufacture of current products and the development of equipment and processes for new products and improvements to the overall production methods.
Responsibilities
- Level 1:
- Acquires job skills and learns policies, procedures and work instructions to complete routine tasks.
- Works on assignments routine in nature, requiring limited judgement
- Routinely interacts with cross-functional groups within the Liebherr organization.
- Supports development of new and existing products and processes.
- Provides input for fiscal planning, capital projects and cost reductions.
- Reviews product design for manufacturability.
- Provides feedback for dispositioning of non-conforming product.
- Provides technical assistance in the implementation of manufacturing concepts.
- Implements and supports manufacturing technologies
- Assist in specifying, selecting and installing equipment that is statistically capable, reliable, and maintainable as well as safe and ergonomically sound.
- Develops and improves workflows.
- Evaluates and proposes new and advanced engineering concepts, new equipment, processes, and technological developments in the field to maintain state-of-the art awareness.
- Supports equipment utilization forecast and makes any proposals necessary to support planned and unplanned future growth and/or requirement changes. Supports materials engineering efforts for manufacturing.
- Maintains and reviews processes for ensuring safe operations, tools, methods, and equipment are in use throughout the facility.
- Supports supplier development in the area of manufacturing.
- Level 2:
- All duties of Welding Engineer Level 1 plus:
- Applies acquired job skills, policies, procedures and work instructions to complete tasks.
- Requires instructions on a few assignments.
- Identifies areas for manufacturing improvement, researches, and develops solutions to improve production efficiency.
- Dispositions issues with non-conforming product.
- Specifies welding equipment and procedures required for production.
- Attends and provides manufacturing feedback at design reviews.
- Level 3:
- All duties of Welding Engineer Level 2 plus:
- Utilizes substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks.
- Requires minimal supervision.
- Works on assignments that are moderately difficult and require judgement in resolving issues or in making recommendations.
- Skilled in planning, managing, directing resources and managing projects.
- Has the ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
- Researches, analyzes, and specifies tooling and equipment required to manufacture.
- Confers with Engineers to investigate equipment failures and difficulties to analyze and provide technical recommendations and design changes.
- Develops manufacturing procedures and processes to ensure that production goals are met.
- Independently collaborates with multiple departments to manage medium to large scale projects.
- Researches and analyzes Field and Customer proposals, specifications, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
- Attends and provides manufacturing approval at design reviews.
- Level 4 (Senior):
- All duties of Welding Engineer Level 3 plus:
- Requires little to no supervision.
- Effectively communicates and manages projects with Suppliers, Purchasing and Engineering.
- Trains, mentors, and develops peers and other personnel on processes and procedures, resolves failures and system malfunctions, and provides technical guidance.
- Reviews and approves processes, corrective actions, and product designs for manufacturability.
- Leads the investigation of failures and difficulties to provide technical recommendations for design changes.
- Provides feedback on customer problems and needs. Works to develop corrective and preventative actions for customer’s issues relating to manufacturing.
Competencies
- Level 1:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Welding Engineering or AS in Welding Engineering with two years of engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of fundamental engineering and project management concepts and practices.
- Knowledge of ERP LN system as it relates to mining truck Bill of Materials (BOM) structure and inventory control.
- Excellent communication (oral & written) skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as engineering specifications, drawings, blue prints, procedures, and manuals.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra, probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Products including: Outlook, Project, Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Knowledge of basic heavy equipment manufacturing processes, equipment, and work area requirements
- Knowledge of manpower and equipment utilization calculations and planning
- Judgment: Displays willingness to make decisions; Exhibits sound and accurate judgment; Supports and explains reasoning for decisions; Includes appropriate people in decisionmaking process; Makes timely decisions.
- Level 2:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Welding Engineering with two years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All skills of Welding Engineer Level 1 plus:
- Experience in MRP, bills of materials related to production and inventory management.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, engineering specifications and technical documentation.
- Knowledge of GD&T and other tolerance methods.
- Responsible for projects with small to medium scope.
- Lean Principles
- 3D Design Software Basic Knowledge
- Quantity: Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity; Works quickly.
- Level 3:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Welding Engineering with four years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All skills of Welding Engineer Level 2 plus:
- Demonstrated effectiveness in planning, managing, and directing resources and managing projects.
- Ability to lead groups of engineers, production personnel and production supervision toward project goals.
- Ability to work independently toward the completion of assigned projects and effectively present to a group.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, engineering specifications and technical documentation.
- Responsible for large-scale projects.
- Advance Lean Principles
- Level 4:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Welding Engineering with six years of applicable engineering experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All skills of Welding Engineer Level 3 plus:
- Knowledge of financial data and costing procedures.
- Works on assignments that require considerable judgment and initiative.
- Understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
- Determines method and procedures for new assignments.
- Knowledge of financial data and costing procedures.
- Highly skilled in planning, managing, directing resources and managing projects.
- Responds to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
- Welding Engineering Expert in their respective subject matter area.
- Bulletproof Managers Training.
- All levels:
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
