Spare Parts Data Engineer
The Spare Parts Data Engineer is in charge of the creation and validation of spare parts documentation, tracks and maintains the supplier bills of materials, checks for and corrects discrepancies, and coordinates and updates records to reflect upgrades and modifications to products in the field.
Responsibilities
- Managing and cataloging spare parts for service and support
- Engineering Data Review:
- Examine blueprints, engineering drawings, and change orders to ensure parts data aligns with design and manufacturing standards.
- Serves as the Senior BoM administrator.
- Validate engineering bills of material to meet Technical Publications Department standards.
- Communicate engineering changes to technical writers, technical illustrators, and BoM Administrators.
- Work with suppliers to ensure additional information for spare parts is available.
- Assist BoM Administrators to create and maintain supplier spare parts bills of material.
- Receive and review supplier drawings, models, and other documentation.
- Work with technical illustrators to schedule new and revised illustrations based on engineering or supplier changes.
- Coordinate and update machine records based on changes caused by Service Information (SIs) and Technical Instructions (TIs).
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Liaise with Engineering Data Management, Purchasing, Service Exchange Unit, Quality and Planning departments to generate new parts, gather information and determine part serial number applicability in Parts Catalogs.
- Work with affiliates to ensure feedback on parts exchange and change-out is received in the required format.
- Respond to affiliate and customer feedback to Technical Publications documentation.
- Technical Support:
- Help service teams identify, and order correct spare parts.
- Provide innovative design solutions and support cost-out initiatives.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree with 3 to 5 years related technical experience and training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. - Ability to interpret and understand engineering drawings and bills of materials.
- Ability to coordinate activities between various teams.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word Processing software.
- Ability to interpret a variety of information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schematic form. Attention to detail in documentation and data accuracy.
- Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) and/or enterprise resource planning (ERP) and part release/change management tools.
- Experience working with bills of material, engineering drawings, schematics and/or technical illustrations. CAD (PTC – Creo, IsoDraw etc.) skills are beneficial.
- Experience in a manufacturing facility in regard to engineering drawings, bills of material, item data, and quality requirements are preferred.
- Previous experience in an original equipment and/or aftermarket manufacturing facility preferred.
- Ability to travel up to 20% national and international travel to customer or supplier sites.
- Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
