QA Receiving Inspection Supervisor
This position is responsible for the administration of applicable quality systems and directives that result in compliance with corporate and company policies, procedures, instructions, specifications, and customer requirements relative to product manufactured and assembled at Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. (LME) by performing the following duties personally or through reporting employees.
Responsibilities
- Perform and direct audits related to policies, processes, customer requirements, standards, regulations, and systems.
- Participate in onsite customer audits or plant tours.
- Carry out assignments as directed by the Quality Manager.
- Represent end users during meetings, discussions and/or business decisions.
- Identify, report, and escalate relevant Quality issues to management.
- Participate in investigations and resolutions of customer complaints.
- Identify when practices and procedures do not align and adjust documentation accordingly.
- Perform multiple functions within our Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
- Support production operations relative to quality issues.
- Assist with the development, measurement, and reporting of Quality metrics.
- Create Quality training presentations for the QA receiving department.
- Develop inspection plans for receiving inspection.
- Issue and participate in Corrective Actions.
- Generate efficient, comprehensive, and communicable reports and presentations.
- Represent Quality Assurance in Material Review Board (MRB) and Ship Release meetings.
- Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products.
- Issue containment notices, direct inventory transactions, and effectively quarantine non-conforming or suspect non-conforming product.
- Manage inventory and participate in physical inventory counts when scheduled.
- Audit non-conformance reports to ensure employees are following procedures or instructions that result in accurate, clear, complete, reports and that attribute information is included.
- Manage first article inspection and general inspection of product received into plant two.
- Coordinate with the QA Production supervisor for inspection of items that cannot or should not be inspected in plant two or require additional resources.
- Order third party inspection of items that have inspection needs that exceed our equipment capability or personnel abilities.
- Identify, address, and escalate inspection deficiencies whether it is systemic, procedural, training, or equipment related.
- Ensure adherence to documented processes regarding receiving inspection record keeping.
- Monitor and improve the receiving inspection process to reduce time product sits in inspection hold.
- Assure that meaningful quality requirements and attributes are inspected as well as packaging.
- Assist with developments of requirements for first article submissions and inspection criteria.
- Supervisory Duties:
- Manages Direct Reports.
- Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the QA Receiving Inspection team.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
- Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Assist with decision making processes for situations outside of a written process.
- Ensure the reporting employees are equipped with the proper tools and modern technology to efficiently perform their duties.
- Ensure reporting employees are aware of and operate in accordance with all safety policies and regulations as defined by the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) department.
- Cooperate with other supervisors and managers to accomplish work.
- Provide an interface between internal and external groups.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University and three (3) years related technical experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Eight (8) years of experience in Quality Assurance at an ISO 9001 registered manufacturing facility. One or more of the following certifications preferred; Certified Quality Inspector by the American Society for Quality; Certified Quality Auditor by the American Society for Quality and/or Advanced Product Quality Planning & Production Part Approval Process Certification by the Automotive Industry Action Group.
- Read, write, speak, and interoperate the English language.
- Participate in or facilitate presentations and verbal meetings in group settings.
- Understand and implement LEAN, 5S, and Visual Workplace tools.
- Perform basic arithmetic, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics.
- Read an interoperate prints and dimensions in both imperial and metric standards.
- Understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
- Produce and comprehend simple and complex instruction and correspondence.
- Generate efficient, comprehensive, and communicable reports and presentations.
- Use modern computing equipment and software packages including but not limited to Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Internet Explorer, and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver license and passport.
- Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
