Environmental Health & Safety Specialist
We are seeking a motivated and detail oriented EHS Specialist to join our team and support our EHS and Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability (CRS) initiatives. The specialist will assist in implementing and maintaining EHS programs, conducting inspections, and providing support to the LUS group to ensure compliance with regulations and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization. The specialist will also take on the role of corporate fleet management for all Liebherr companies in the United States.
Responsibilities
- Manage all aspects of corporate fleet program including vehicle specs, fleet administrator meetings, fleet tool management, training new drivers or administrators, counseling administrators, etc.
- Provide support to EHS senior staff and Liebherr company teammates on EHS topics as directed by EHS senior staff
- Assist in accident investigation to identify causes or to determine how such accidents might be prevented in the future.
- Under guidance, inspect or evaluate workplace environments, equipment, or practices to ensure compliance with safety standards, CRS standards, and government regulations.
- Maintain existing hygiene programs, such as noise surveys, continuous atmosphere monitoring, ventilation surveys, or asbestos management plans.
- Aid in design of public or employee health programs.
- Under guidance, conduct and support company safety training or education programs and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Provide new-employee health and safety orientations and online training programs and develop materials for these presentations.
- Assist in coordination of "right-to-know" programs regarding hazardous chemicals or other substances.
- Provide administrative assistance and support in maintenance of ongoing projects such as Vehicle Safety, WC, and OSHA programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Education and Experience: Associate’s degree from 2-year college or university and/or two years of relevant EHS experience. Industry specific certifications such as ASP (Associate Safety Professional) or GSP (Graduated Safety Professional) will also be considered relevant education.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety regulatory requirements.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external customers.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and charts.
- Ability to solve Health and safety related issues and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule required to meet multiple shifts and offsite locations.
- Ability to maintain discretion and handle sensitive information.
- Able to develop, guide and mentor others.
- Travel domestically and internationally up to 20% of the time.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
