The Blaster responsible for application of surface preparation on mining components and tooling.

Responsibilities

Level 3

  • Operate pallet jacks, cherry picker to lift or hang parts needing prepping/blasting with supervision.
  • Maintain good housekeeping, 5S practices.
  • Read and comprehend simple instructions and verbal directions.
  • Properly prep and blast parts with supervision.
  • Hang parts with proper identification, following work order specifics with supervision.
  • Read and interpret Liebherr Employee Rules and Regulations, company safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and work order packages.
  • Use small parts blaster, to include equipment inspection & basic troubleshooting with supervision.
  • Operate forklift in addition to other material handling items to move, hang, parts for blast/paint or completion. Hang parts on racks or A frames for blast/paint.
  • Properly suit up per safety standards for blast booth operations with supervision.
  • Break down and clean up equipment after blasting with supervision.
  • Adhere to Liebherr's ISO and 5S principles.

Level 2:

  • Perform all duties of level 3 without supervision plus:
  • Complete all required documentation, which includes any standard’s documents and log time for jobs into the computer.
  • Rework and or touch up parts as needed to meet standards.
  • Identify blast defects, such as poor surface condition.

Level 1:

  • Perform all duties of level 2 without supervision plus:
  • Perform all blast duties with zero rework with no supervision.
  • Communicate with the team and management.
  • Fill in as acting lead when lead is out.
  • Positively influence people, Lead a group to achieve a task at hand and follow up to ensure that production goals are met.
  • Work any shift and overtime as needed to meet job demands.
  • Trouble shoot the blasting systems without supervision. Communicate with Norton/Global Finishing when problems are more advanced.
  • Train, mentor other members on blast operations and standards.

Competencies

Education and Experience:

  • Level 3: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 1 year experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 2: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 3 years experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level 1: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 8 years experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience. Understanding of Non Conformance work orders and able to work independently to complete. Lead the touch up process in the assembly area, understanding all requirements and accomplishing all tasks without supervision. Assign other blast members tasks for the day in coordination with assembly schedules.

Level 3:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment including cranes and lift trucks.
  • Knowledge of good housekeeping practices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions.
  • Ability to hang parts with proper identification with supervision.
  • Ability to read and interpret Liebherr Employee Rules and Regulations, company safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and work order packages.
  • Must be able to complete all "TELL" online training classes
  • Successful completion of department specific safety, forklift training & license / crane/rigging training.

Level 2:

  • Must have a minimum of 2 years in Level 3, including all the mandatory functions of Level 3 to advance.
  • Ability to correctly & neatly complete all required documentation.
  • Demonstrate ability to safely & correctly prep parts for blast, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prep all parts for blast.
  • Ability to operate large forklifts.
  • Must be able to offer direction and technical instruction when needed.

Level 1 (Senior):

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years in Level 2, including all the mandatory functions of Level 2 to advance.
  • Must be able to perform daily tasks without supervision.
  • Must be able to positively influence people, Lead a group to achieve a task at hand and follow up to ensure that production goals are met.
  • Ability to work any shift as needed, without supervision.
  • Ability to blast all components using any material with zero rework.
  • Ability to trouble shoot blasting system without supervision.

Additional Requirements:

  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 5% of the time. (Change as necessary)
  • Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
