The Field Service Technician position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting trucks and products.

Responsibilities

Level 1

  • Works with Technicians to help maintain, repair and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Learns to complete required service and field modifications reports.
  • Learns to collect and report system download information.
  • Learns the BaaN computer system to ensure parts can be identified and found.
  • Participates in the re-build of selected components.
  • Successfully interfaces with customers.
  • Works closely with warehouse personnel to learn to correctly record parts.
  • Learns to access and update the computerized maintenance program.
  • Assists Lead Service Technician and Supervisor as needed.
  • Promotes safe work habits and complies with MSHA & OSHA regulations.
  • Handles and properly disposes of hazardous wastes, such as oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner and similar material.
  • Understands and complies with quality assurance requirements.

Level 2

  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Completes and submits required service and field modification reports.
  • Collects and reports system download information.
  • Participates in the re-build of selected components.
  • Successfully interfaces with customers.
  • Works closely with warehouse personnel to ensure all parts are correctly recorded.
  • Accesses and updates the computerized maintenance program.
  • Trains service personnel.
  • Assists Lead Service Technician and Supervisor as needed.
  • Handles and properly disposes of hazardous wastes, such as oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner and similar material.
  • Promotes a safe work environment by ensuring the group and self-follow established safety procedures including MSHA & OSHA regulations.
  • Understands and complies with quality assurance requirements.
  • Develops an understanding of systems used on Liebherr Mining Equipment products.

Level 3

  • Correctly diagnose failed components and troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Completes and submits required service and field modification reports.
  • Collects and reports system download information.
  • Participates in the re-build of selected components.
  • Effective interface with customers.
  • Works closely with warehouse personnel to ensure all parts are correctly recorded.
  • Accesses and updates the computerized maintenance program.
  • Ability to be a Lead Service Technician and assist the Supervisor as needed.
  • Promotes a safe work environment by ensuring the group and self-follow established safety procedures including MSHA & OSHA regulations.
  • Handles and properly disposes of hazardous wastes, such as oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner and similar material.
  • Understands and complies with quality assurance requirements.
  • Trains Service Personnel.
  • Ability to acquire and maintain Mine Foreman’s certificate, as required
  • Ability to acquire and maintain MSHA Electrical Certification, as required
  • In addition to Level II competencies, demonstrate proficiency in trouble shooting, repairing or performance of:
    • High Voltage Drive System
    • Programming of PLC’s
    • Ability to be shift leader on truck assemblies or major rebuilds

Level 4

  • Provides technical leadership to technicians.
  • Trains service personnel.
  • Diagnoses failed components.
  • 24/7 on call status unless otherwise scheduled.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Completes and submits failure and field modifications reports.
  • Collects and reports system download information.
  • Participates in the re-build of selected components.
  • Interfaces with customers.
  • Works closely with warehouse personnel to ensure all parts are correctly recorded.
  • Works closely with LME engineering and maintenance on product support and development.
  • Compiles parts lists, as needed.
  • Accesses and updates the computerized maintenance program.
  • Assists supervisor, as needed.
  • Completes monthly Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) and Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) electrical inspections.
  • Promotes safe work habits and environment.
  • Handles and disposes of hazardous wastes, such as oil, antifreeze, transmission fluid, auto parts cleaner and similar material.
  • Promotes a safe work environment by ensuring the group and self-follow established safety procedures.
  • Understands and complies with quality assurance requirements.
  • Ability to acquire Mine Foreman’s certificate, as required
  • Ability to acquire MSHA Electrical Certification, as required
  • Ability to acquire LME and AWS Certification for frame welding on Liebherr trucks
  • In addition to Level III competencies, demonstrate proficiency in trouble shooting, repairing or performance of:
  • Programming of all electrical systems, as required
    • Ability to maintain all certifications, i.e. electrical and welding
    • Ability to be shift leader on truck assemblies or major rebuilds
    • Ability to be direct contact to LME-NN Engineering Group

Level 5

  • Provides technical leadership to technicians.
  • Trains other service technicians.
  • May be responsible for assigning tasks and directing workflow to other service technicians (2-10 employees).
  • Diagnoses failed components.
  • 24/7 on call status unless otherwise scheduled.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Completes and submits failure and field modifications reports.
  • Collects and reports system download information.
  • Participates in the re-build of selected components.
  • Interfaces with customers.
  • Works closely with warehouse personnel to ensure all parts are correctly recorded.
  • Works closely with LME engineering and maintenance on product support and development.
  • Compiles parts lists, as needed.
  • Accesses and updates the computerized maintenance program.

Competencies

  • Education and Experience:
    • Levels 1-2: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Level 3: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, technical school or apprenticeship, and three years of maintaining heavy industrial equipment.
    • Levels 4-5: A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma, technical school or apprenticeship, and five to seven years of experience in Liebherr or related Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) equipment.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Demonstrated thorough understanding of systems used on Liebherr Mining Equipment trucks and products.
  • Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Windows and Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read, interpret, understand and explain to lower-level technicians maintenance and parts manuals.
  • Demonstrated self-starter who is able to work independently as well as a team member.
  • Demonstrated mechanical and electrical maintenance skills.
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Ability to work on a variety of equipment at various locations.
  • Ability to receive and maintain MSHA electrical certification as required.
  • Ability to work overtime, as needed.
  • Ability to write basic to mid-level difficult reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from internal and external customers. 
  • Ability to maintain Mine Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) certification.
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule required to meet shift schedules.
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed.
